Abstract
This video offers a first look at data from The Office of English Language Acquisition's (OELA) 2016–18 Biennial Report. State educational agencies report on the top five languages spoken by English learners (ELs) each school year. Nationally, the top five languages other than English most commonly spoken by ELs in school year 2017–18 were, in descending order, Spanish (Castilian Spanish), Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese), Vietnamese, and Somali.
