Abstract

This video offers a first look at data from the Office of English Language Acquisition’s (OELA) 2020–22 Biennial Report. SEAs report on the top five languages spoken by ELs each school year. Nationally, the top five languages other than English most commonly spoken by ELs in the 2021–22 school year were, in descending order: Spanish (Castilian Spanish), Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese), Vietnamese, and Portuguese.
